Children with asthma exacerbation may receive benefits due to application of inhaled steroids

Inhaled steroids are typically directed to cure persons with early stages of asthma complications.
According to several latest researches, one may increase the standard quantity of inhaled corticosteroids by 8 times, but benefits will be not enhanced under such circumstance. Ejaz Yousef, a doctor who has been involved in these studies, states that if a doctor sees that medical position of a patient worsens, he/she may prescribe taking oral steroids instead of enhancing the measure of inhaled steroids. Increasing the measure of inhaled corticosteroids is not without any unwanted result. This factor causes various adverse effects. For example, the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis may be suppressed in such case.
Intake of inhaled corticosteroids was considered to be alternative therapy to taking oral medications. It was in 1997. It was advised to prescribe inhaled corticosteroids as alternatives of oral medications that are effective for individuals with asthma exacerbations.
Later, several researches have shown that application of enhanced dosages of inhaled corticosteroids systematically doesn’t increase benefits.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a research that involved almost 200 kids of 2-17 years. These children were cured with inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for therapies for a period of 12 days. Any kid that experienced asthma complications was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the scientists.
No any kid that smoked, had symptoms of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the study.
Patients had to inform about their unwanted effects per telephone within 72 hours. So, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance for exercises. Each effect was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant no any sigh; 4 meant the most enhanced severity level.
Only four children out of 82 the kids that were given increased doses of inhaled corticosteroids had to use systemic corticosteroids. Two2 of them were given doubled quantities; others 2 were applying the measure that was more increased by 8 times than a normal one.
According to the results of the research, effectiveness of the drugs, placebo effect, supervision of experts and treatment of individuals during early stages of asthma complications were responsible for getting good results.
This as well as other researches display that not every story about steroids is connected with abuse and intake of them by athletes. Steroids are effective for many medical cases.
