Chael Sonnen is allowed to apply anabolic steroids. The physician Timothy Trainor noticed that this fighter actually had hypogonadism.
What does this disease represent? Hypogonadism is connected with insufficient testosterone secretion. Physicians commonly prescribe hormone replacement therapy for treatment of this condition.
The athlete Chael Sonnen has acquired a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Thus, this athlete is allowed to apply steroids for therapeutic needs and fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July 2012.
According to instructions given by Sonnen’s health care provider, he should introduce injections of Testosterone Enanthate and Testosterone Cypionate twice weekly. The measures which are prescribed have not been disclosed. But under establishments of the Nevada Athletic Commission, blood serum levels of testosterone in Chael Sonnen must be within normal range on the morning after the fight against Silva.
According to the doctor Trainor, those that compete with TUE must be tested on the morning after the match to define whether they have administered something right before the competition.
Trainor believes that testosterone is able to cause performance-enhancing effects, if it is utilized right before the fight. He confirms that injections must not be applied in the days before a fight in order to prevent high testosterone levels.
But it seems that the NAC is not aware that steroids cause benefits connected with increase of performance, not only if they are applied right before competitions. Usage of steroids enhances performance during workouts before competitions. And the effects remain even after sportspersons discontinue using them.
Chael Sonnen had enhanced levels of testosterone at UFC 117. He noted that he had tested positive because he had been on TRT. He appealed his suspension and it was reduced to 6 months from one year. But Chael Sonnen didn’t have any TUE that time.
