Alistar Overeem, a UFC fighter, appealed his suspension which was received by him for intake of anabolic steroids in April 2012. But Alistar Overeem couldn’t win his appeal against members of NSAC. He forfeited his license for nine months. Then Alistar Overeem will be allowed to obtain it again.
Alistar Overeem acknowledged that he had used injectable testosterone that was prescribed him by his doctor. Overeem used the strategy which was claimed to be boring. He claimed that he had never used anabolic steroids or other related medicines intentionally. Alistar Overeem tried to make the NSAC believe that his injectable administration of steroids was accidental.
David Chenoff, the defense attorney for Alistar Overeem, is experienced in representing prominent sportspeople.
The defense attorney called the personal doctor of his client to testify during the hearing. It was suggested that Dr. Molina would testify in defense for this fighter. Testimonies of this physician were too poor. The doctor Molina presented an explanation for prescriptions of certain preparations which resulted in Overeem’s enhanced testosterone: epitestosterone ratio.
The treating physician of Alistar Overeem admitted that he indicated and injected his patient with a mixture of Toradol and Dexamethasone because he had an injury. Actually, these medicines are used for anti-inflammatory needs. But administration of testosterone for recovery from injuries is not approved by the FDA.
It is suggested that the health care provider Molina hasn’t warned this sportsman that these preparations contain the anabolic steroid testosterone. But it is obviously that he has never asked about it.
So, testimonies of Dr. Molina turned out to manifest lack of the evidence related to therapeutic purposes for application of forbidden preparations by Alistar Overeem. The health care provider couldn’t provide any reasonable explanation which could justify prescribing of Toradol and Dexamethasone to this person. Testimonies of the doctor Molina worked against Alistar Overeem.
Actually, it became evident that Alistar Overeem was a victim of the doctor’s quack.
But it is possible to suppose that this strategy was designed by the defense attorney for this mixed martial artist.
Pat Lundval, a commissioner, was probably impressed by the defense of Overeem. She even referred to him as to a “smart guy”.
The members of the NSAC seemed to be convinced that Alistar Overeem has been really a great guy but he has surrounded himself with such questionable individuals, as the physician Moline. They advised him to look for more qualified professionals in the future.
