A steroid investigation by Mossos d’Esqudra and Spain’s Policia Nacional resulted in arrest of ten persons that were involved in a steroid chain. These individuals supplied top amateur and professional sportspersons and even Olympic athletes with anabolic steroids, HGH, EPO, CERA and other related products.  The operation was called “Operacion Skype”. The steroid ring was settled in Barcelona.
The investigation was originally related to the professional cyclist David Garcia Dapena that tested positive for EPO after the 2010 Vuelta a Espana. It was defined that David Garcia Dapena had high hematocrit levels which indicated about application of EPO.
Garcia didn’t deny application of the prohibited drug. He collaborated with the police. David Garcia admitted that he had purchased drugs with performance-enhancing effects from the physician Alberto Beltran Nino.
It was defined that Beltran had been the leader of an organization connected with sophisticated doping. This organization supplied cyclists and other athletes with forbidden drugs. It was also determined that some sportspersons who took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Vuelta a Espana, the 2009 Tour du Portugal and the 2012 Spanish Athletics Championships were included in the group of sportspeople who bought steroids and other forbidden medications from this doping ring.
It was even earlier supposed that Beltran supplied athletes with steroids and other related drugs and taught them how to avoid detection. He was arrested in Italy after he was caught driving his car that was full of steroids and other related substances.
Nuno Ribeiro, a Portuguese professional cyclist, accused the physician Beltran in injecting him with prohibited preparations after he tested positive for CERA in 2009.
The sprinter Jose Luis Blanco assisted in the steroid investigation which had been led against Beltran after this runner tested positive for EPO at the 2012 Spanish Athletics Championships.
Beltran moved to Bahrain in 2009. Since that time the physician had no any direct contact with any sportsperson.
Nevertheless, the police believe that he has established a team of intermediaries in various countries. They have bought steroids and other related medications and supplied top sportspersons with them.
Beltran was detained in Madrid in March 2012 by police officials. He was caught having AICAR and TB-500.
Although no any athlete has tested positive for these medicines, it is believed that several athletes have planned to administer these preparations.
