Jeffrey George is the owner of a former popular clinic related to hormone replacement therapy. The clinic was called “South Beach Rejuvenation”. Jeffrew George was indicted on charges of illegal sales of anabolic steroids. As it was noted by investigators, he started tosell controlled substances through his clinic illegally. But in fact the owner of “South Beach Rejuvenation” was involved in illegal activity of pain clinics established in Florida. Jeffrey George distributed steroids via internet.
George and his twin brother Chris were leaders of a pain clinic activity. They earned 40 million dollars due to illegal distribution of oxycodone and other analgesics during 2 years. This resulted in their accusations. Jeffrey George faced also a murder charge because one of his patients had died due to overdosing.
Jeffrey George hid his illegal operation through his clinic “South Beach Rejuvenation”. Anabolic steroids were advertising on the internet and in different magazines connected with fitness as a part of therapy conducted by the clinic.
It was not the first arrest of George connected with steroids. He was charged with possession of anabolic steroids , intending to sell them in 2003. This man was sentenced to 8 months in prison. Then this person was involved in illegal sales of anabolic steroids, trying to bypass Florida’s laws which allowed clinics to prescribe and sell steroids legally. This man didn’t have any medical education. But he founded the clinic “South Beach Rejuvenation” and employed certain doctors that prescribed steroids without any fear. One of his employees was Daniel Hauser. This physician got 5, 000 dollars per week for prescriptions of steroids for George’s clinic.
Since steroids were sold per internet and clients lived far from the clinic, they had to perform certain tests in clinics that were located near to them. Then they filled results of lab tests in the certain blanks and sent to the “South Beach Rejuvenation” per email. Hauser wrote them prescriptions.
Numerous sales consultants of ”South Beach Rejuvenation” administrated anabolic steroids too. Furthermore, they bought large amounts of steroids with prescriptions and distributed them on the side. The sales consultants also advised their clients how to use and stack steroids in order to reach more positive effects in bodybuilding and sports.
Chris, George’s brother, helped his friend, Chris Hutson, financially to set up a clinic to distribute steroids. Thus, “LA Health and Rejuvenation” was established.
Cynthia Cadet and Robert Meek were two physicians who were hired by Hutson to prescribe anabolic steroids. They received 1, 000 dollars weekly.
The persons that established “South Beach Rejuvenation” and “LA Health and Rejuvenation” and physicians employed by them were charged with illegal sales of anabolic steroids and prescriptions over internet.

Jason Momoa, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth deny steroid use
Anabolic steroids are definitively taken by different actors. You may see dramatical changes in physique of actors in short period of time. For example, a certain actor has played a role in a film, being quite thin, then, after short time he plays a role with increased muscle size. How may actors enhance their muscle mass in short period of time? The answer is clear. They use anabolic steroids. But actors deny that they administrate performance-enhancing drugs.
Jason Momoa in “Conan the Barbarian”, Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” and Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger” increased their muscles essentially to play needed roles. Undoubtedly, this fact led to questions about administration of steroids. But the actors refused to answer the questions linked with intake of preparations which possess performance-enhancing effects.
It is known that Jason Momoa enhanced his muscle mass by 30 pounds to play Conan. An actress, Rose McGowan, who also played in “Conan the Barabarian” noted that Momoa reached that results not because of steroids. Jason Momoa mentioned that he wanted to correspond to a Frank Frazzeta painting without administration of steroids. It would be ideally, according to this actor. But he noticed that our world and life were not ideal. Momao said that he had trained a lot. Furthermore, he followed a strict diet. He ate broccoli, peanut butter, yams and chicken breast continually.
As for Chris Hemsworth, this actor enhanced his muscle size by 20 pounds to be able to play Thor. Chris Hemsworth said that he had eaten a lot. Chris Hemsworth noticed that he had eaten and he seemed as if he were busy with an important thing. He noted that it had been quite difficult to eat, when he was not hungry. Moreover, he had to eat large amounts of food. According to his words, it was very tiring.
It is interesting to mention that Hemsworth never lifted weights before playing his role in “Thor”. Couldn’t you find this factor unreal without administration of steroids? Nevertheless, he confirmed that he hadn’t administrated anabolic steroids.
Chris Evens also gained more than 20 pounds of muscles to play Steve Rogers in the film “Captain America: The First Avenger”. He said that he had increased muscle size due to trainings and a strict diet.

The Anti-Doping Agency of the USA praises players of the NFL for their agreement to perform blood tests for HGH
Players of the NFL don’t trust methods utilized by the WADA. Why did the distrust appear? Let try to understand the reason.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) made a decision to test players of the National Football League for HGH. Althogh the NFL Players’ Association has agreed, certain skeptic thoughts related to the level of trustworthiness of blood test for HGH were expressed. This test is going to be just a part of the testing for anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
Certain specialists who are not linked with the WADA activity directly don’t agree with the methods used by this agency. They justify the skepticism of the NFL players.
Matt Chaney, a chief chronicler of administration of steroids in American football, is sure that the NFL players are skeptic to the WADA anti-doping tests not without any reason. The point of view of the players is justified by Matt Chaney.
Don Catlin, the director of Anti-Doping Research, points out that methods of the WADA for detection of HGH must be transparent. The WADA uses the HGH isoform ratio test introduced by Christian Strasburger.
It is important to notice that according to certain specialists, the method of this test doesn’t have scientific basis. It is not trustworthy. The Director of Anti-Doping Research notes that this test is not good for detection of HGH at all.
There is another test that can be utilized by the WADA to identify athletes who use HGH. Sonksen introduced a certain HGH testing method which is based on physiological biomarkers. But the WADA doesn’t applies the method of Sonksen to catch consumers of HGH.
According to Sonksen, workers of the WADA are not specialists in this area. That’s why they don’t see the priority of one method over the other. But as it was proved by scientists, the HGH biomarker test is better than HGH isoform test.
However experts point out about difference between these two tests, the WADA doesn’t intend to to utilize the HGH biomarker test.

Suppression of NCoR1 leads to increase of muscle size
Scientists want to develop alternative drugs to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They assure that athletes may soon have another way to induce muscles. The Salk Institute has confirmed that the efforts of the specialists have success. Late studies have displayed that suppression of a genome regulator that is known as “NCoR1” leads to enhacement of muscle mass, strength and endurance. The leader of the researches conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, points out that this knowledge can contribute in development of certain new products that will benefit not only for sportsmen and bodybuilders that train but also for people who are sedentary.
The scientists of the Salk Institute notice about people that are not able to do physical exercises because they have various health troubles, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or psychological aspects that cause sedentary lifestyle. The specialists put efforts to develop several specific drugs which could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy individuals. Now they make experiments with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they can cause some muscle-building effects in sedentary individuals. But people who apply anabolic steroids have to train and change their diets in order to achieve more significant effects.
If new products which inactivate NCoR1 are developed by scientists successfully, they will make essential changes in sedentary people. But can you imagine which benefits will be caused in sportsmen?
But there is also an essential difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. It is known that anabolic steroids lead to side effects; some of them may be quite dangerous for health and even fatal. Furthermore, anabolic steroids may cause serious side effects especially in women. But as for NCoR1 suppression, scientists are sure that medications which will suppress this genome regulator will not lead to unwanted reactions.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression that has the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It represents results of different experiments which involved mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle size significantly. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had got more enhanced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice that were given anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very precious for further researches and conclusions.
It is possible to mention that elder people and people that have got muscle dystrophy will be soon enrolled in studies to find out positive effects of new potential products.

9 year imprisonment and 4 year suspension from competitions is the punishment that a sportsman received for trafficking steroids
Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t participate in competitions four years. The ban was claimed by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was charged with trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher distributed more than 15 types of steroids. It was found out that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone belonged to the medicines which had been sold by this sportsman. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this sportsman to 9 months in jail.
It is interesting to mention that Carl Fletcher never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you find this fact strange? How could it be? It is possible to suggest that methods used by anti-doping agencies are not effective enough to catch consumers of steroids who take part in world sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD put many efforts to release sports from cheating and intake of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These organizations also work together with law enforcement agencies in order to achieve the necessary results.
The UKAD noticed that anti-doping officials would be allowed to supply information about names of sportspersons who administrated anabolic steroids.
This case displayed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement benefits a lot. It proved that law enforcement organizations could help greatly to detect the athletes who administrate anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is not possible to overestimate the role of these agencies in catching of cheaters in sports. Andy Parkinson, the manager of the UKAD, assures that if law enforcement agencies work together with the UKAD, they will have success.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain situation connected with administration of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had been involved in the illegal activity conducted by some of his relatives. This caused Fletcher’s suspension from competitions till November 8, 2015.

Yannick Noah’s article “La Potion Magique” caused harsh criticism
Sportsmen from Spain criticized the French former tennis player, Yannick Noah. This sportsman wrote an unbelievable article “La Potion Magique” which was published in the French newspaper “Le Monde”. This former sportsman notes in his work that sportsmen from Spain have several priorities and win competitions because they apply anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. He confirms that Spain has got more loyal attitude to steroid use than France; that’s why sportsmen from Spain have more enhanced muscle mass and have success in competitions.
Rafael Nadal, a celebrated Spanish sportsman, points out that Yannick Noah wrote completely foolish statements and comments in his work. He is surprised how Noah’s work was allowed to be published in the newspaper. Rafael Nadalwho won 10 Grand titles points out that Yannick Noah doesn’t write such thoughts which are worthy to be published. According to the athlete from Spain, statements of the former French tennis player don’t deserve being made public.
David Ferrer, a professional tennis player from Spain, claims that Yannick Noah is an ignorant man. Ferrer doesn’t understand how a man like Noah who was a professional tennis player and knows the way sport works may confirm such things.
Tennis is not the only kind of sports in which Spain had success. Basketball players from Spain won the 2011 FIBA European Championships. Alberto Contador, the Spanish cyclist, won the 2010 Tour de France and the 2011 Giro d’Italia.
Josep Guardiola, a Spanish football director, point out that Yannick Noah should prove, if he points out that sportspersons from Spain use steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. But if he is not able to prove it, he should not write about it.
French sportsmen support attitude of Spanish sportsmen towards Yannick Noah. They criticize him too. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a well-known tennis player from France, David Douillet, the Sports minister of France, and Frederic Moncassin, the manager of the cycling Team Type 1 belong also to that people who don’t agree with the statements of Noah.

Links between production of illegal drugs and child abuse
Ruben Jaramillo, a man in New Mexico, is charged with child abuse. Police raided his house and found out that his house served as an underground lab that had manufactured anabolic steroids. According to New Mexico laws, an individual can be charged with child abuse, if he\she even only allows children to be there, where the chemical compounds or proper equipment applied for manufacture or maintenance of these forbidden medications are present.
When the Albuquerque Police Department’s Eastside Narcotics Team invaded the house, they saw that there was an underground lab in it. Police discovered several kilograms of raw powder for manufacture of steroids, such substances, as benzyl alcohol and sunflower oil, more than 150 vials of anabolic steroids. Some vials were labeled “Testosterone Cypionate”. Moreover, police mentioned that information connected with prices, quantities and types of steroids had been recovered too. Chemical compounds were in various rooms around the house, including the bedroom and the kitchen.
Ruben’s 2 daughters of 11 and 13 years old were at home, when police invaded the house.
As it is known, New Mexico is not the only state where the manufacture of anabolic steroids can be defined as child abuse. At least 10 other states have got similar laws. Such laws are established not without any reasons.
Chemical ingredients can be toxic. They may have negative influence on children’s health. It is necessary also to keep in mind that there is a risk of fires and explosions of several chemical substances. Parents that manufacture anabolic steroids at home do not worry about their children’s health. The children can face great dangers in such situations. How can children live in a methamphetamine lab and be free of dangers?
Parents who just take steroids differ from those who manufacture them, especially at home.
This is the first situation in Albuquerque, when production of anabolic steroids is defined as child abuse by prosecutors.

George Laraque has to endure questions of the media that asks him to make public the names of the NHL’s players that take steroids
Georges Laraque wrote his autobiography in a book “The story of the NHL’s unlikeliest tough guy”. The author wanted to share his biography with others. Georges Laraque mentioned also about intake of anabolic steroids in the National Hockey League (NHL). These aspects about steroids use by the NHL’s players seemed to be quite interesting. The Canadian press published only the quotes linked with this endless subject. The rest of the book was ignored.
Georges Laraque said in an interview that he had never administrated performance-enhancing drugs. Furthermore, he pointed out that he hadn’t mentioned any names of the players that had used steroids. The book is indeed about life of the author.
The author mentions about several ways in order to determine whether a hockey player takes steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs or not. Here are 2 ways noticed by him:
1. A hockey player whose weight has been increased by more than 40 pounds in a short period of time must be utilizing performance-enhancing drugs.
2. A hockey player whose weight has been reduced significantly in short period of time to correspond to the indications of the Winter Olympics must be administrating performance-enhancing drugs.
Of course, all sportsmen, including hockey players, know that they will be tested for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by the World Anti-Doping Agency. That’s why they cease administrating the banned products certain time before the Olympics. It helps them to prevent risk of testing positive for these medications.
But this is not the main idea of the book. George Laraque wanted to show that a child is required to put incredible efforts to become a famous professional sportsman in spite of racial intolerance and reviling. But the press is not interested in this aspect. The press wants to publish stories related to administration of steroids by famous sportsmen.
The auhor did not have a goal to to make public the names of the hockey players who administrated steroids.

Operation Bulk Up in Lebanon (Ohio)
A two-year investigation detected and closed a large-scale underground lab related to steroids. The investigation was conducted under name “Operation Bulk Up”. It was a well-organized activity of the proper authorities in Lebanon (Ohio).
As it was found out, a dealer of steroids distributed these medications to members of the Cardio Strength Center of the YMCA. So, when the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office was informed about it, the investigations began. The authority made a decision to send an officer that had to pretend being a member of the YMCA to the steroid distributor. Major John Burke, the leader of the Warren County Drug Task Force, was chosen for this goal.
Mike Caroll, the President and CEO of the YMCA, was the only individual at this association that knew about the investigation. He had ability to keep all details he knew about the plans of the Drug Task Force in secret. So, a large-scale organization linked with distribution of steroids was detected.
32 persons participated in the illegal activity linked with distribution of steroids. They were charged with corrupt activities, trafficking and possession of steroids. The investigation planned to catch just manufacturers and distributors of steroids. However it didn’t focus on people who got these preparations, the officials mentioned that professional sportsmen and bodybuilders belonged to the customers.
The proper authorities seized 600,000 dollars which were claimed to be a profit from selling of steroids, 300, 000 dollars in cash and vehicles and 100 weapons.
Mike Caroll, the President and CEO of the YMCA told openly to media about the results of the investigation. He didn’t fear to note that he had participated in this activity to detect the criminal organization. Caroll pointed out that he was very happy to find out about the positive results.
It is necessary to mention that it was quite difficult to detect the criminal organization. Major Burke had to put efforts to get steroids from a dealer. As a result of the investigation, an underground laboratory in Tennessee was detected. It manufactured steroids in injectable form. The raw was bought from China. The leaders of distribution were Ronald Herbort and Matthew Geraci.
According to Major Burke, direct interactions between dealers and clients were avoided in this organization. There was a specific organized locker system which helped to prevent personal interactions.
Although this illegal activity connected with manufacture and distribution of steroids was well-organized, the law-enforcement could detect it to close the laboratory. The result of the investigation displays that it can be confirmed the following statement: if law enforcement gives chief priority to such operations, positive results can be achieved.

Several experts agree with skepticism of NFL players
NFL players mistrust methods applied by the WADA. Why did the distrust appear? Let try to find out the reason.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) intends to test players of the National Football League for HGH. However the NFL Players’ Association has agreed, several skeptic arguments linked with the level of trustworthiness of blood test for HGH were expressed. This test is going to be just a part of the testing for anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances.
Several specialists who are not involved in the WADA activity directly are skeptic to the methods applied by this agency. They justify the skepticism of the NFL players.
Matt Chaney, a chief chronicler of administration of steroids in American football, is sure that the NFL players mistrust the WADA anti-doping tests not without any reason. Skeptic attitude of the players is justified by Matt Chaney.
Don Catlin, the director of Anti-Doping Research, says that methods of the WADA for detection of HGH must be transparent. The WADA applies the HGH isoform ratio test introduced by Christian Strasburger.
It is necessary to note that according to several specialists, the HGH isoform ratio test is not proved scientifically. It is not trustworthy. Catlin claims that this test is not good for detection of HGH at all.
There is another test which can be used by the WADA to determine sportspersons who use HGH. Sonksen elaborated a certain HGH testing method that is based on physiological biomarkers. But the WADA doesn’t use this method to identify users of HGH.
According to Sonksen, employees of the WADA are not specialists in this area. That’s why they don’t understand the priority of one method over the other. But as it was proved scientifically, the HGH biomarker test is better than HGH isoform test.
However specialists notice about difference between these two tests, the WADA doesn’t desire to change the method.

Knowledge of Conte related to steroids use by different athletes
All sprinters in 100 meter final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics were charged with application of anabolic steroids. Could you imagine it? Although numerous things were done to prevent intake of the banned preparations in sport, it is not free from these products.
BALCO founder Victor Conte said in an interview about administration of steroids by the 100 meter finalists of the 2000 Olympics. Maurice Greene, Ato Boldon, Obadele Thompson, Darren Campbell, Dwain Chambers, Aziz Zakari, Jon Drummond and Kim Collins used performance-enhancing drugs.
Victor Conte confirms that Dwain Chambers, the British sportsman, took steroids. Conte supplied these medications to Chambers in 2003. As it was found out, Chambers administrated tetrahydrogestrinone.
Maurice Green, the American sportsperson, administrated steroids, testosterone cream, EPO and certain stimulants. Angel Guillermo Heredia told that he had sold these preparations to Maurice Green. But it is important to note that this American sportsman began to purchase these drugs from Heredia after he had got 2 medals in Olympics.
Although Victor Conte doesn’t know about all nuances related to possession and intake of steroids by these all sportspersons who took part in the Sydney Olympics, he is sure that performance-enhancing drugs had a significant role at the women’s 100 meter final of the 2003 Championship in France. Conte supplied steroids to five of the finalists.
Kelly White, the winner, got the banned medicines from Conte too. After she had tested positive for Modafinil, she forfeited her gold medals. Later Kelly White said that she had administrated tetrahydrogestrinone and the blood booster EPO.
Conte wasn’t surprised about the progress of anti-doping agencies related to steroids in sport.

Kathy Jager utilized steroids because these medicines were recommended by the doctor to stabilize her hormone balance. According to the establishments of World Anti-Doping Agency, sportsmen may use steroids for medical purposes and take part in competitions, if they receive a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). But as it is known, Kathy Jager didn’t have a TUE which could allow her to utilize these medications without being forbidden from competitions.
It is important to note that this athlete in the sport of track and field doesn’t treat intake of anabolic steroids seriously.
She tested positive for methyltestosterone at the 1999 World Association of Veteran Athletes World Championships in Gateshead (Great Britain) after she had broken world records in running of 100 meters. That competition was between people of 55-59 years old. It was the first time she was banned for intake of banned preparations. Now it was her second time.
As it is known, this sportsperson took EstraTest HS which contained esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone in a single pill.
She pointed out that she had utilized EstraTest for medical needs. But the World Masters Association didn’t believe and banned her from competitions.

So, this woman can’t participate in competitions till the age of 70 years old. If she had had a TUE, she could compete. But nobody knows whether the World Anti-Doping Agency will give her a TUE or not.
